Restoration Ministries’ Thrift Stores
An important and unique aspect of our stores is our mission to provide employment training and opportunities for individuals with limited job experience. Residents of Harvey House and Tabitha House acquire basic job skills at the stores. For our residents, working at the store is a stepping-stone for them to get back into the work force and offers them opportunities to gain job skills and build their resumes. After completing these drug recovery programs, many are hired for full-time positions. In fact, the manager of our South Holland Thrift Store is a graduate of Tabitha House, and our two drivers, our warehouse manager and a floor employee are graduates of Harvey House. We also employ community members who have limited job experience. Our stores are located in Harvey and South Holland. The South Holland Thrift Store opened on September 1, 2004 in an old lumber store at 351 W. 162nd Street in South Holland The new store has two levels of retail space and a large warehouse. At the store’s ribbon cutting ceremony, Mayor Don DeGraff welcomed Restoration Ministries to South Holland stating, “Restoration Ministries is a good fit for our village because its essence is one of servanthood and who we are as a village is built around being public servants.” Our original store located in Harvey at 149th and Dixie Highway reopened in March 2005 after being completely renovated. Both stores’ bright interiors and their friendly and helpful employees make shopping at our stores a very enjoyable experience. We accept and gladly pick up donations of furniture, appliances, household items and clothing. All donations are tax-deductible and are greatly appreciated. We also need and welcome volunteers. For information on how you can help or to make a donation, please call 708-876-8413. |
